Home energy labelling involves disclosing a home’s energy performance rating so that prospective buyers can better understand a home's energy consumption and efficiency, similar to EnerGuide labels used for appliances like washers and dryers. This information can help homebuyers factor energy and carbon performance into their purchasing decisions.
In the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, the Province of B.C. committed to introducing a virtual home energy rating tool to raise awareness and encourage retrofits that save energy and reduce emissions. As the City explores its approach to home energy labelling, staff will monitor the development of the provincial program to ensure alignment and support consistent implementation across jurisdictions.
