Official description

Develop criteria and procedures for the management, allocation, and spending of climate-related funds on high-priority initiatives
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

The City of Surrey funds climate action through a variety of revenue sources, including property taxes, contributions from senior government, and external grant funding. In particular, funding provided by the BC Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP) provides the City with predictable and stable funding that supports initiatives to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and prepare Surrey for the impacts of a changing climate. As additional external funding for local climate action becomes available, it will be important for the City to have a process for identifying projects with strong alignment with CCAS objectives to prioritize for funding.

To ensure climate-related funds received are fully leveraged, a formalized internal process for reviewing and allocating funds to high-priority climate initiatives has been established and implemented for the LGCAP funds received to date.
