Official description

Develop criteria and procedures for the management, allocation, and spending of climate-related funds on high-priority initiatives
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

The City of Surrey funds climate action through a variety of revenue sources, including property taxes, contributions from senior levels of government, and external grants. In particular, the BC Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP) provides the City with stable, predictable funding to support initiatives that reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and help Surrey adapt to the impacts of a changing climate. As new external funding opportunities for local climate action become available, it will be important for the City to have a clear process for identifying and prioritizing projects that strongly align with the objectives of the CCAS.

To ensure climate-related funding is fully leveraged, a formal internal process has been established to review and allocate LGCAP funds to high-priority climate initiatives.
