B1.2Schedule updates to building standards

Updates to building standards will be introduced over time to improve the energy efficiency, carbon performance, and climate resiliency of new buildings. Establishing a clear timeline for these updates will provide predictability and allow City staff and the building community to plan and prepare accordingly. This timeline should be developed in collaboration with the building industry to ensure feasibility and support successful implementation.

This action will see the City develop and publish a schedule of anticipated future updates to climate-related building standards. This schedule will outline planned adoption timelines for higher steps of the BC Energy Step Code and Zero Carbon Step Code, as well as other climate-resilient building requirements. It will be informed by consultation with industry stakeholders and updated regularly to reflect changes in provincial policy and local priorities.
