Official description

Continue to coordinate with senior government agencies to ensure City bylaws and policies align with and support provincial and federal regulations for ecosystem protection
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Protection of the natural environment is shared between all levels of government. For example, the federal government has jurisdiction over migratory birds and marine areas, while the Province sets regulatory requirements for streamside area protection and local governments protect environmentally sensitive areas through land use regulations. For this reason, it is important for the City to coordinate closely with senior government agencies to ensure the City’s policies and bylaws meet provincial and federal requirements, advance shared objectives and complement senior government regulations.

This action would see City staff continuing to engage and coordinate with senior government agencies to ensure alignment between policies and regulations across all levels of government.
