Official description

Look for opportunities to restore and daylight creeks and riparian areas in partnership with developers
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Surrey has approximately 1,400 kilometres of urban watercourses that provide spawning and rearing habitats for several species of salmon and trout, a variety of wildlife, other freshwater fish populations local to British Columbia as well as other aquatic species.

Currently, the City uses a watercourse classification map to classify streams based on their habitat value to ensure that sensitive habitats are protected when planning for new development areas. Integrated stormwater management plans are created for new development areas to identify drainage infrastructure needs, balancing land use planning, stormwater engineering, flood and erosion protection and environmental protection.

This action would see the City explore new avenues for restoring degraded creeks and riparian areas in partnership with developers through the redevelopment process.
