Official description

Work across City departments toward the development of shared understanding and definition of equity that fits Surrey’s context to support and guide staff in incorporating equity considerations in plans and policies
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

In July 2023, Surrey City Council directed City staff to develop a plan to identify and address social priorities in Surrey. This plan – called the City of Surrey Social Development Plan – is guided by a vision that all people can access the opportunities and resources they need to thrive. It will replace the 2006 Plan for the Social Well-Being of Surrey Residents and will identify current social priorities for the City, clarify the role of the City with respect to addressing social topics, and guide future workplans for the Housing and Social Development Division. The Social Development Plan will include a definition of equity for the City of Surrey, developed through a collaborative interdepartmental staff working group, to foster a shared understanding of the word for City staff to use in their work.
