Official description

Explore opportunities for social procurement criteria (e.g. community benefits) for climate-related projects
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Procurement is a critical activity that enables the City to advance policy objectives and deliver essential services. By re-evaluating and updating procurement practices, local governments can achieve greater efficiencies, improve outcomes, support operations, and leverage purchasing power to achieve socio-economic goals.

This action will explore opportunities to integrate social procurement criteria into climate-related projects, using procurement as a tool to advance both climate and socio-economic objectives.

A recent example is the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund projects, developed under the Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy. Through these projects, the City piloted a social procurement policy designed to create employment opportunities for equity-seeking groups, demonstrating how procurement practices can deliver broader community benefits.
