Official description

Explore opportunities for social procurement criteria (e.g. community benefits) for climate-related projects
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Procurement is one of the key activities undertaken by the City to advance its policy objectives and deliver essential services. By re-evaluating and updating their procurement practices, local governments can achieve greater efficiencies, deliver better outcomes, support operations and use measures to achieve socio-economic objectives.

This action would explore opportunities to develop social procurement criteria for climate-related projects, utilizing purchasing power to realize socio-economic objectives.

A recent example of this includes the Disaster Mitigation Adaptation Fund projects, guided by the Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy, whereby the City piloted a social procurement policy to foster employment opportunities for equity-seeking groups.
