Official description

Account for GHG emissions reduction and climate resilience in day-to-day facilities operating and management practices and procedures, and in Facility Condition Assessments
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

The City is committed to transforming civic facilities into zero-carbon buildings capable of delivering core services to the community while protecting against the effects of climate change, such as extreme weather events. Achieving zero-carbon standards involves phasing out fossil fuel consumption alongside energy efficiency improvements through the integration of sustainable practices in day-to-day operations.

This action will see the development of a comprehensive strategy for monitoring energy usage within civic facilities, in addition to ensuring all equipment operates at high efficiency. City staff will play a crucial role in this action and will be equipped through on-the-job training to adapt their building management practices to align with the evolving needs of transitioning facilities. Furthermore, operators and patrons of these facilities will be actively educated on how to contribute to running these facilities at their highest efficiency. Incorporating emissions mitigation measures and climate resilience strategies into the routine functioning of facilities also fosters a climate-conscious culture among both facility users and staff.
