Official description
Description
Surrey’s public infrastructure—including bridges, roads, water, sewer, and drainage systems—and its ecosystems face increasing vulnerabilities due to climate impacts. High temperatures, intense precipitation, reduced snowpack, rising sea levels, and drought place significant strain on these systems and threaten their long-term health and functionality.
To prepare for future climate risks, this action will see City staff continue to plan for and implement climate-resilient infrastructure solutions and ecological management practices. This includes using the latest climate projections to assess risks, designing infrastructure to meet future demands, and selecting species and management strategies that promote ecosystem health under changing conditions.
By prioritizing climate-resilient solutions, the City can strengthen its ability to withstand future climate challenges, reduce risks to public and environmental safety, and achieve cost savings over the long term.
