Official description

Finalize the implementation plan for delivering the Strategic Cycling Network for North Surrey town centres
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Through the Surrey Transportation Plan public engagement process, residents told us that they would like to bike short distances to key amenities such as transit, local parks, grocery stores and civic facilities.

In the long-term, protected cycling facilities will be built on all arterial and collector roads, providing safer connections throughout the city. In the short-term, staff are proposing to prioritize completing a protected cycling network in North Surrey.

The North Surrey Network will provide safer cycling connections for residents in City Centre, Guildford, Fleetwood, and Newton to access SkyTrain and RapidBus, local recreation centres, parks and grocery stores.

The North Surrey Network is essential to support the introduction and future expansion of the e-bike share pilot project. Infrastructure projects will be phased to build out the network in areas of greatest cycling potential first, as well as aligning with other key dates, such as the planned opening of the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain in 2028.
