Official description

Explore opportunities to encourage low-waste building technologies and materials (e.g. modular; recycled content)
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Construction and demolition materials represent the largest category of waste sent to disposal in the region, with the majority being attributed to demolition. This waste can be prevented in part by selecting low waste technologies and materials. Sustainable construction practices like off-site prefabrication protects materials from weather and makes use of leftover materials, contributing to significant reductions in waste materials. Selecting materials that are durable, have recycled content, have been salvaged from deconstruction, and can be recycled, also reduces the amount of waste generated. To further reduce construction and demolition waste and associated emissions, the City can explore opportunities to incentivize low-waste alternatives through permitting processes.
