Official description
Description
Surrey City Energy is a City-owned district energy system that provides heat and hot water to high-density residential, commercial, and institutional buildings in the City Centre. District energy systems offer several advantages over traditional heating and hot water systems, including:
- reduced greenhouse gas emissions;
- reduced energy consumption; and
- lower capital, operations and maintenance costs.
Surrey City Energy’s rate structure is competitive compared to other district energy systems, as well as electricity and gas boiler providers.
For this action, the City will establish a separate rate class that will align with new building energy and emissions standards and the City’s climate commitments.
