Official description

Provide training opportunities for City staff in the current and emerging technologies and practices needed to deliver resilient zero-carbon buildings
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

As the City transitions to resilient, zero-carbon new construction and retrofits, ongoing training will be essential to equip staff with the skills needed to support local builders and implement new requirements. This will include dedicating additional resources within the Building Division to lead internal initiatives and coordinate training opportunities. Given the rapid pace of advancements in high-performance construction, low-carbon technologies, and building policies, training will remain a continuous need for staff across various City divisions involved in the development process.

In 2023, as part of the Zero-Carbon Building Design Policy Review Project, a series of workshops introduced City staff to key principles of high-performance, resilient building design. These sessions included deep dives into low-carbon mechanical systems, climate-resilient design, and strategies for reducing embodied carbon in construction.
