Official description

Demonstrate leading energy and climate performance in new City buildings and recognize local industry leaders
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

City-owned facilities are the largest source of Surrey’s corporate emissions. The City’s strategy is to reduce existing emissions and avoid new emissions from being added. This action will ensure that the development of new City facilities can continue without increasing overall emissions to the buildings profile. This is achieved through the inclusion and integration of low- or zero-carbon technologies, advanced building materials and innovative architectural design in new buildings. With a large number of new construction projects coming up in Surrey, it is important for the City to lead by example by establishing standards for civic-owned facilities to showcase zero-carbon technologies and climate-resilient design.

This action also recognizes the role played by local industries in advancing the City's sustainability agenda. The City will aim to celebrate and encourage these industry leaders though the establishment of partnerships, provision of resources, and sharing of best practices.
