Official description

Incorporate green infrastructure in City projects, such as rain gardens, street trees, absorbent and biodiverse landscaping, and wildlife-friendly road crossings in key locations
(Full action name in the CCAS)

Description

Green infrastructure uses vegetation, soils, and other elements and practices to restore some of the natural processes required to manage water and create healthier urban environments. Green infrastructure includes both natural and engineered assets, including forests, street trees, rain gardens and green roofs, and offers a range of environmental, economic and social benefits.

This action involves pursuing opportunities in City projects, like road improvements and new facilities, to incorporate additional green infrastructure. By incorporating natural elements into Surrey’s urban design, the City will benefit from cleaner waterways, decreased flooding events, and enhanced local biodiversity.
